The Bangladesh government is preparing a new policy that will allow government primary schools to operate at different times depending on local conditions. The plan aims to make school schedules more convenient for students in different parts of the country.
State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj shared the update during a meeting with government primary school teachers at the Sylhet Circuit House. He is currently visiting government primary schools in several districts as part of an ongoing review of the education system.
According to the State Minister, the new policy will allow schools to choose either morning or afternoon shifts based on the needs of each area. He said weather conditions and local socio-economic factors may affect the best time for students to attend classes.

Bobby Hajjaj said some areas already have different attendance patterns. He cited parts of his own constituency, Mohammadpur, where students usually come to school in the morning. He added that officials have already been instructed to consider such local needs while preparing the new policy.
Under the proposal, field-level education officers will assess the preferred school hours for each area, cluster, or individual school. They will decide whether a morning or afternoon schedule is more suitable for students in their respective locations.
The State Minister said the policy includes instructions for collecting this information before implementation. After the policy is introduced, the government will review how it works in practice.
He also said the policy will be revised if necessary. If the initial approach does not produce satisfactory results, the government will prepare a new draft based on the experience gained during implementation.
The proposed changes aim to provide greater flexibility for government primary schools while taking local conditions into account. The government is expected to complete the policy framework before deciding on its implementation.
