The government has appointed 25 senior administrative officials to 19 public universities across Bangladesh. The appointments include six vice-chancellors, 11 pro-vice-chancellors, and eight treasurers.
The Secondary and Higher Education Division under the Ministry of Education published the appointments through separate notifications on Monday and Tuesday (July 28). The ministry said the appointments were made under the relevant university laws with the approval of the President.
According to the notifications, each official will serve for the prescribed term from the date of joining. Their duties, powers, and benefits will be determined under the respective university laws and regulations.
Among the new vice-chancellors, Professor Dr. Abu Sadat Mohammad Sayem has been appointed to Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET). He is a professor of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and also heads the Department of Petroleum and Mining Engineering.
Professor Dr. Md. Habibur Rahman of the University of Rajshahi has been appointed Vice-Chancellor of Kishoreganj University. Professor Md. Mozammel Haque of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology will lead Habiganj Agricultural University as its new Vice-Chancellor.
Professor (Grade-1) Dr. Md. Zakir Hossain of Islamic University has been appointed Vice-Chancellor of Sunamganj Science and Technology University. Professor Md. Khaled Uzzaman of the University of Rajshahi has become Vice-Chancellor of Netrokona University. Professor Dr. Md. Moktar Ali of the University of Dhaka has been appointed Vice-Chancellor of the University of Frontier Technology, Bangladesh, formerly known as Digital University.
The government also appointed new pro-vice-chancellors and treasurers at several universities. Islamic University, Patuakhali Science and Technology University, Comilla University, Rabindra University, Habiganj Agricultural University, Rangamati Science and Technology University, Kurigram Agricultural University, Meherpur University, Sunamganj Science and Technology University, Dhaka Central University, Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET), Jahangirnagar University, National University, Bangladesh Open University, and Noakhali Science and Technology University received new appointments.
Professor Dr. Emtaz Hossain has been appointed Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Islamic University, while Professor Dr. Idris Ali has become its Treasurer. At Patuakhali Science and Technology University, Professor Dr. A.B.M. Saiful Islam has been named Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Professor Dr. Mohammad Atikur Rahman has been appointed Treasurer.
Professor Dr. Mohammad Amzad Hossain Sarker has been appointed Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Comilla University, while Professor Dr. Mohammad Belal Uddin will serve as Treasurer. At Rabindra University, Professor Dr. Md. Abdus Sobahan has become Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Professor Dr. Md. Jahangir Hossain has been appointed Treasurer.
Other key appointments include Professor Dr. Md. Akhtar Hossain as Pro-Vice-Chancellor of RUET, Professor Dr. Md. Ataur Rahman as Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Meherpur University, Professor Dr. Md. Jahangir Sarker as Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Sunamganj Science and Technology University, Professor Dr. Mosammat Nur Mahal Akter Banu as Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Kurigram Agricultural University, Professor Dr. Md. Shafiqul Islam as Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Rangamati Science and Technology University, Professor Dr. Mohammad Ismail Hossain as Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Habiganj Agricultural University, and Professor Dr. Salma Begum as Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka Central University.
The government also appointed Professor Dr. Md. Sohel Rana as Treasurer of Jahangirnagar University, Professor Dr. Md. Nazmul Hossain as Treasurer of National University, Professor Dr. Sheikh Rafiqul Islam as Treasurer of Bangladesh Open University, and Professor Dr. Md. Hasan Uddin as Treasurer of Noakhali Science and Technology University.
The appointments fill important leadership positions at public universities across the country. The newly appointed officials will assume their responsibilities after joining their respective institutions under the provisions of the applicable university laws.
